🇺🇸/🇩🇪 You're receiving the English version of our newsletter because you either subscribed to it on the English version of our website or made at least one donation through our English donation form.
Since these are not perfect proxies for language preference, please let us know (e.g. through an informal reply to this email) if you'd prefer the regular German version of the newsletter (which is usually more polished and language consistent).
Hi und servus,
Nothing, 1%, 4% or 10% of your income or wealth? As much as you would pay in church tax?
“How much should I give?” is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive at Effektiv Spenden.
Of course, there is no general answer to this question, but our founder Sebastian has put together some helpful perspectives and ideas in one of our blog post classics (and in a new German-language ▶️ video).

🎓 Turning privilege into effective donations
Our supporter Nina Friedrich shares a personal – and inspiring – answer to the question “How much should I give?” in a guest post on the Effektiv Spenden blog.
Nina grew up in Hamburg and was financially supported throughout her mathematics studies by the Studienstiftung, from her bachelor's to her doctorate. She feels motivated by her privileges to give back. Nina has therefore decided to “repay” her entire scholarship in the form of donations to highly effective charities and has also taken the 🔸10% Pledge.
In addition, she is now helping experienced professionals to align their talents, skills and career choices with impactful causes as the new managing director of High Impact Professionals.
Are you celebrating a birthday, getting married or running a marathon? Then why not use the occasion to raise awareness for effective giving among your friends and family?
You can now launch personal fundraising campaigns on Effektiv Spenden. Choose one or more organizations/funds, set a donation goal, display a progress bar and much more.
You can see an example of how that might look here in the German-language birthday fundraiser of our founder Sebastian.

🌎 Exchange with our international partners
For our managing director Anne Schulze, September was all about exchanging ideas with some of our most important global partners. At a conference in California and in New York, she met numerous colleagues from the effective giving ecosystem: research partners, grantmakers, fundraising experts, and, of course, some of our recommended charities.
Donating more is a great way to do more good. Inspiring more people to get involved is too!
We are currently planning our strategy to be particularly present with Effektiv Spenden in Christmas season: in print and online media, in podcasts, in newsletters, etc.
Do you have any ideas which podcasts, newsletters or other media/multipliers would be a good fit for our messages? Do you perhaps even have warm contacts and could help make a connection?
PS: The election results in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg – and now also in Austria – were foreseeable, but still dismaying in their actual occurrence. In our view, it is now important not to be discouraged, but to recognize that the great commitment of many democrats – especially through donations – has prevented even worse from happening for the time being. For those who would like to get involved, or who would like to show their friends and family a way to take effective action, we recommend our Giving Fund: Defending Democracy. 🏛️
